Even though some say it's silly to build up cash, once you have the trade post set up, it's silly not to have some extra cash and one boat kicking around at ALL times. I see some people who toss out ridiculously low prices on some items and if you can get there quick you can become the master of Arbitage.
My market now runs 3 out, but it's really about 5. Focusing on moving goods from buyer to seller means that I can max out all production, lose money by not having citizens and still come out ahead.
