I would say that half the maps really didn't have great lines of sight and you could hide perfectly well in the thick brush. There were also a good number of urban maps where a sniper could "hide" in buildings. There were a couple maps that had issues like what Icky is referring to but most snipers adjusted by hiding under camo netting or inside some of those odd huts on stilts. Or they sacked up and grabbed a tank or a well balanced M60/Law kit.
