Interesting read. It's sad to hear Iron Lore has gone bankrupt because of piracy, according to that dev, that is.
I have downloaded games myself before, but either to only play them with my cousin for one day or to try it out and buy the retail later on. (No, this isn't an excuse: I've actually bought Supreme Commander after I tried the pirated version for a few hours) The only case where I downloaded a game and never paid for it, is GRAW 2. This isn't because I don't like the game, in fact I think it's great, but just to hopefully hurt Ubisoft, at least a bit. They just delivered a crappy, unfinished product with RSV 2, which I did buy. RSV 2, however, isn't bad but it just could've been so much better.

One more thing, though:

I think one of the main reasons for piracy is pretty obvious: money. If the publishers would finally lower the rather high prices that are being asked for PC games these days (CoD 4 in particular) more people would buy the game instead of download it illegally too. It's just not sensible to buy a game for over 40 euros only to find out it sucks.
