Yeah, you can put the video card, ram, and CPU in the mobo, connect the PSU and monitor, place the Mobo on its' packaging box, and fire it up to make sure it posts, recognizes the ram etc. That way if anything's jacked up, you'll know right off the bat.

If you somehow manage to kill your cat or fry your PSU, don't sue me. I am not a hardware expert.
