So I was wrong, the problem was not fixed, and on the next reboot the mouse and touchpad didn't work again. I did a Windows system restore, which was a struggle in and of itself and didn't work the first few times, but eventually I did manage to restore to factory defaults. But once again, after three or four successful reboots, the problem reappeared. Yet the keyboard and touchpad still work in safe mode, so I'm almost certain it's not a hardware issue. I really don't know what to do at this point apart from firebombing the Acer headquarters, it's out of warranty and would cost more to fix than it's worth at this point. To restore the system to factory defaults I created a recovery disc using a program Acer provides, this was made after the system wasn't working though so it's possible that there was still a corrupt file of some kind, I guess. I don't have a regular Windows disc since it came pre-installed on the laptop. So any help would be appreciated.
