Mosely, I have had a few total lock ups myself. Even with task manager, it is very difficult to kill the game. I have not had to reboot yet, been very close to doing it. Eventually the End Task will work, but it takes a full minute for it to actually kill it. :/ My new card GTX275 is not over heating, the fan is not running 100% and does not even break 150 degrees, getting 30-35 fps... of course it drops when there are lots of effects at once.... so that is not it. The CPU is running fine, and a memory check looks positive.

Not only are we seeing total server crashes. I have noticed many -F- and public players who seem to randomly lock up (running in place, standing where they spawned)... then got killed... and/or disconnected .. or just started moving again. As if they suddenly gain control. There are a thousand other reasons that someone would stop moving for a few seconds, went afk... hands off controls for a drink, a rip, phone, adjust thong, change battery in dead mouse.

Could it be that there are others who are getting discod and crashing on an hourly basis? Most definitely. I am sure that the majority of players are fully enjoying the game, but how many of us are frustrated by its performance? I am.

    ...

What I dont get is that I am just north of El Paso Texas, the F server is in Dallas (a little over 500 miles) where I have always gotten pings in the 60's.

The in game server browser shows the ping as 72, which is about right. Yet in game my ping is over 250 all the time, over 400 at times, twice any one else. I know, I know, I read/heard about the pings being wrong in game. I swear it feels like playing with a 275 ping.

I used to play Desert Combat with the Aussies during the day with a 275 ping and played on BF2 Euro servers and it was not as bad as BFBC2 runs. There is a little constant rubberbanding, I am just to far behind everyone else to hit them, so judging the lead on someone closer than 20 yards is impossible. RPGs, nades and the tube are the only way I can kill anyone. The lag is also making me launch rockets into my own cover and teammates who walk in front of me more than I would like to admit.

I guess a quad purchase is in my near future

Actually I now think my problems are/were caused by a bad Nvidia driver, which I installed last week to actually help gameplay, but apparently may have cooked the card. Thanks Nvidia! I had to do a full system restore to downrev the drivers, and now can only seem to get the game to not video freeze by running the fan at 100%. Bastards.

Strangely, I'm not getting many of the problems you guys are experiencing, like Angel's ping issue. I should be getting like 150 ping (never checked though) but I have not had any rubberbanding/excessive lag on the -F- server so far.
On the complete lock up, I've played the game for about 18 hours now and have experienced just one. My specs are as following:
    8800M GTX (so lappie card)
    P8400 (2.26 Ghz)
    2 Gigs of RAM
And I'm running at 1168xsomething at medium

My game is totally unplayable - even with the GPU fan on full, it only lasts about 5 minutes before a total graphics freeze with a little bit of discoloration in certain pixel streams. The system is totally locked, and if you wait long enough the graphics just totally cut out (monitor goes to powersave). Seems pretty evident that it's a GFX issue.

Testing with FurMark seems to confirm this - as soon as the GPU is stressed enough to hit 70 degrees, the graphics freeze up in the same exact way. I never hear the cooling fan kick in, but even if it did I think it would just be a matter of time until the card hit the freeze temperature.

So, I don't think this is a game issue after all - especially since the game was actually running great until it started happening. I'm just going to order a new card right away - probably not an Nvidia this time!
