Patching BF2142
Hey guys, I am having a problem getting BF2142 up to snuff for the 8th Mercs night on Friday and was hoping someone here may have the secret to getting things working before the festivities begin.
Here's my situation: Everything was working fine in 2142 until I tried to run Northern Strike. When trying to play any NS maps I was getting an error saying "This Server Only Allows Players with Unmodified Content. Please Revert To The Latest Official Version." or some such nonsense. After doing some research and trying a few quick fixes it became clear that I was going to have to do a fresh install using the following steps to get things up to snuff.
1. Uninstall 2142 and delete all references from hard drive and registry.
2. Install 2142 from DVD.
3. Upgrade to patch 1.4.
4. Install Northern Strike.
5. Re-patch to 1.4.
6. Patch to 1.5 using incremental patch.
Everything seemed to be going fine until I got to step 3 (patch to 1.4). Here's my problem as it stands.
When I double-click the patch file (BF2142_Update_140_Final.exe) I get an hour glass for about 5 seconds and then nothing happens. The patch program doesn't seem to want to open. I have admin rights and I'm running windows XP. I have tried downloading multiple copies of the patch from different sites and experience the same problem. The same thing also happens if I try to run the 1.5 patch (full, not incremental) and completely side-step northern strike all together.
If anyone has any ideas as to why I can't run the 2142 patch files/programs I would be forever in your debt. If I can't get this resolved I will be unable to attend the 08/08/08 Mercs night because I can't log onto any servers until I update to the latest patch.
I know there are a lot of smart tech guys on here so I have my fingers crossed.
