I currently have a Nvidia 8800 gts.

what would be considered a really good upgrade to that?

Why do you need to upgrade it?

well I dont really. just always nice to have a shiney new card
plus its giving me trouble in games, gliched graphics, and such. I thought it was over heating but I checked and theres nothing. I've updated and uninstalled drivers over and over again. frankly I'm sick of dealing with it

Could RMA it if the warranty is still good, but I'll give some cards.

Assuming you are using the non-G92 chipset the upgrade options can be:

• 9800 GTX
  
• AMD HD3870 X2
  
• 8800GTX (expensive)
  
• 8800 GTS 512MB with the G92 chipset.
• 8800 GT 512MB
  
  

Though the best price/performance is probably the 8800GT.

There really isn't much that could be termed a "really good" upgrade if you have the 8800GTS 640 (especiialy overclocked). However, if it's giving you trouble I would pick up the 8800GT (around $150 with rebates) or the 8800GTS (G92, around $200 with rebates).

I'm in the same boat with my 8800GTS 640 (although mine is working like a champ at 650/900) but I'm holding out a few more months to see if/when Nvidia releases the GT200 series cards.

the Nvidia 9800 GTX2 is wow. 549 bucks though...

I second RMA, unless you want to spend $500. There isn't a 'huge' upgrade to your card yet.
