jep, do you own an iPhone? I know you do your best to bash Apple with all the fanboy garbage you read, but you just got played bigtime. You just copied and pasted all the whiner posts you could find without having any direct experience. The massive complainers you are quoting are the sort of guys who will complain their coffee is lukewarm, then complain it burned their tongue when they get a hot one as a replacement. Most likely linked from anti-Apple commentators itching to see the iPhone fail "just because".
My iPhone 3G absolutely rocks. The software doesn't suck, MobileMe problems were fixed within a week (they weren't even that bad in the first week, still mostly fine for me) and no problems with case cracking.
You need to stop swallowing every piece of propaganda you read about Apple. The issues you read come from the vocal minority.
No company / device is perfect and the device does have faults. My grievances with it include:
- I agree that the choice of carriers by Apple is horrible. It makes good business sense for them to push the price down with carriers who'll bend over backwards, but it's bad for consumer choice (Rogers is particularly bad). Apple even redirected stock after they found out the unfair plans Rogers were trying to push and left them high and dry to push their own shitty plans. I am a good negotiator and bought it outright, then bullied the original carrier into unlocking it for me and moved it to a much better carrier here. Works great with great rates. No contract. YMMV.
- Copy-Paste would be nice, but I actually don't miss it as much as I thought.
- No ability to force a plain-text reply with email. If you receive Rich Text, you have to reply in Rich Text. Hate this.
- Some apps have a short 2 second pause on launch. Not a big deal with most, but when opening contacts, I find it irritating.
In pretty much every other way, the iPhone is an absolute joy to use and I couldn't go back to using any other smartphone. They feel like dinosaurs in comparison.
Every product has its pluses and minuses, but you make it sound like a pile of junk because you wanted to see it fail from the start like nearly every MS vs. Apple guy. Try to break the stereotype and assess each product on its merits

The phones are cracking.
The software sucks. Frequent crashes and lockups, ridiculous sync times. The app store is fundamentally crippled and pathetic unless you jailbreak your phone (and risk Apple bricking it every time you update the firmware), slow and laggy interface.
MobileMe still doesn't work.
And last but not least, the phone's radio sucks. You know, that part which makes it a phone. It has the worst antenna of any phone on the market. Which means the phone has to drive its antenna at full power, which means terrible reception, limited battery life and it cooks your brain.
And for some reason Apple picks the worst carriers. In Canada, it's Rogers. Rogers couldn't pay me to go back to them. Meanwhile I'll enjoy my $7/mo unlimited wireless internet from Bell.

I will admit the sync times are ridiculous, but it constantly backs up your phone to their server, so, even if you're computer has a horrendous crash, you don't lose quite everything.
The app store, I will admit, sucks. Now that it's installed, my phone is much slower, and my battery life is a lot shorter (but that could be because I'm using it more and more now). As for the antenna, I get great reception everywhere I go (except in a practically lead-lined building at work). Also, here in the States, it's ATT, which I've had no problems with whatsoever. Anytime I had a problem they helped me.
And, yes, MobileMe is retarded and doesn't work, but then again we all know any software that Apple makes sucks nuts (including their operating systems).
Finally, there is no proof that cell phones cause brain tumors or any of that bullshit. Don't believe everything the media posts.
Sorry to hijack the thread with iPhone info. Good phone though cg_.
EDIT: This link that you gave us Jep isn't in English. I'm sorry if others can read it, but I'm not going to go find a translator to be able to read it. I never took French, but I am now fluent in Latin (somewhat) :P
EDIT2: I was reading in this link also, and they suggested to do a basic reset. And that did the trick. Have almost no lag with it now, and it's about where it was before the 2.0 update. But with a new update and trying to apply it across two different devices, some bugs were expected.

Doing a hard reset fixed my input lag immediately. Conjecture is that some third-party apps may not be freeing up memory gracefully when they close. I am going to try limiting my app use to see if this is true.
At least one of jep's whine-fest posts proved useful
Also, my reception is great and it runs much cooler than any previous phone I have used. Admittedly, I live in the middle of the city and rarely venture far from town, so never had the chance to test the reception in sketchy areas.

I don't have a problem with Apple's engineering (although I think their legal group are bullies and their marketting dept is sleazy) and I don't think there's anything wrong with the original iPhone. But I think they are, like all Apple products, wildly overrated, and in the case of the iPhone 3G, there's some schadenfreud going on because I'm tired of iPhone this and iPhone that being crammed down my throat by every news site online. Gizmodo and Engadget should rename themselves iPhoneModo and EnIphone, because the level of coverage is absolutely ridiculous for a stupid phone.
The iPhone has flaws. The software will probably be fixed. The antenna and radio sucks (there's a reason Apple is desperately trying to hire electrical engineers EM and antenna experience). The phone is alright, but vastly over-hyped.

I have to agree with you there. I have long thought that Apple could do without some of the rubbish they claim, especially as far as computing performance goes. Apple products are great as long as you know you're paying a premium for that particular experience. I think the inflated claims are part of the reason people complain so much when something does go wrong. They expect Apple products to make them coffee in the morning and give them a blow-job before bed. A bit of a let-down when they realise it's just handsome technology in the end.

That's the point. Rather than jump up and down and beat the drum, I actually acknowledge that it has faults and identified them quite candidly. It's not a perfect device by any means and I don't think it's the second coming, but it's not the demon phone you make it out to be either
Yeah, it's overhyped, but can you mention a smartphone you feel has a similar or better user experience? I have used many smartphones for software testing, but have avoided owning one until now because I found them all to be horribly clunky and experienced far worse issues than the minimal bugs I encountered with the iPhone.
I also have a good number of friends with iPhones, none of whom mentioned any of the problems in those articles. You know why? Because they're not mouth-breathing tards. Put a piece of technology, no matter how simple, into the hands of an idiot and they'll find a way to fuck it up and blame the manufacturer. 90% of the issues I read about are PEBKAC stories where people apply stupid settings or have unrealistic desires. Well, genius, your battery is running out so fast because you're checking your IMAP email every 15 minutes, downloading 5MB PDFs, playing Super Monkey Ball and are mesmerised by the blinking blue GPS dot all at the same time.
There are acknowledged issues around, some of which I detailed, but the thing has been out about 3 weeks with a rather huge global deployment. MobileMe is 99% back on track and 2.1 is already being seeded with developers. Maybe my friends and I are just unique in that our iPhones aren't trying to eat our first-borns.
I feel bad about derailing the thread, but it is about new phones

If you wanted to assess a product on its merits, why did you post to a thread about the LG UX830 for the sole purpose of posting a bunch of anti-iPhone links? Surely you have some pro-LG UX830 stuff around you could have pulled out instead!
I agree that the iPhone was overhyped, but if you assess it on its merits, it is a really sweet device, as is the ipod touch.
