Really dissapointing. Filefront was the only website I went to for any video game related download. Had blazing fast download speeds and its hard to believe they're shutting down.

Jesus, Stage6 was killed not too long ago too. Looks like they're systematically destroying the homes of all of the HQ versions of Lyra's vids.

This explains why they have been emailing me daily to delete my files from their site.

Why exactly is it shutting down?

More current stuff the authors will probably put their files somewhere else. Still, they probably won't have anything but the current versions re-uploaded elsewhere, and sometimes an older version was nice to have available.

The main thing I liked about this site was it had none of that nagging bullshit you see elsewhere. Ok, one click to dismiss an ad, but that was pretty much it. No "virtual queues", no registration required, and speeds were usually good-to-freakin' awesome. Lots of stuff I got there is available elsewhere or soon will be, but will be more of a PITA to access.

As far as why they're shutting down, all I know is they were owned by Ziff-Davis, which was losing a ton of money even before the economic meltdown. My guess is it's purely a cost-cutting move for ZD. Why they're doing it so suddenly I have no idea.

Agreed. Filefront was the only website that I could avoid all the registration requirements and lines. Fileplanet is just brutal.
