    Default Video Card Fried?

I didn't have time last night or this morning to assess the problem fully. I'm at work and I can't stop obsessing over it. What are the signs that I should look for? Problem is that my screen went blank while playing fallout3. I was on ts and could still communicate with conscript. When I rebooted I got a lot of funky lines and wierd patterns on the display. I could still makeout the desktop but it was at a low resolution and the colors are all out of wack. I went to my device manager and found the card highlighted with a notice that it didn't recognize the driver so I reloaded it and it still booted up the same. I'm anxious to get home to fix it.

My video card died on Monday but my experience was completely different i.e. I could not even get a boot up which may have been from a faulty RAID(?) and not the video card. I wasn't even able to display anything. Not that this helps you but I know how you feel

Sounds like the video card is borked or is overheating very easily.

Ya, sounds like an overheating issue but to happen so quickly there would need to be some problem with the heat sink. Look at the card and see if anything is a little loose or if it isn't seated properly.

Sounds like overheating, especially given that it occurred during Fallout 3. Did you build this PC yourself?

Sounds like overheating to me, canned air for the win. If it is not the bunnies, then your card may have just had too much Fallout.

Then again, it could be the monitor, I just replaced one last month when my old one started giving me crazy static lines when it got warm. I was worried it was my card too.

Well I made it home finally. I'm going in armed with an air canister and an old 7800 for testing. Results shortly. I hope it's not my monitor...

Yep its the card. The 7800 booted up properly. Now to return the 7800 to my buddy and come back to an empty bleeding computer case. Good thing is I have my laptop, but I've been spoiled with awesome graphics and a large monitor. Gaming on my old XPS laptop just doesn't cut it anymore.

You tested your card again and it still doesn't work? That is rare...
