    Default Weird Connection Problems

    Here's my problem:

im getting back into WoW with a few rl friends. I logged in and immediately began experiencing connection issues involving me getting d/ced very regularly as well as my ping going up to 1500 m/s.

    But only while in combat.

in towns, in cities, on roads, i get a near perfect 100-200 m/s.

the first way i attempted to solve this problem was by checking my router and resetting it. no dice. didnt help.

Next, i tried adjusting my adapter settings and made sure my drivers were up to date. they all are.

Also, i changed my wireless encryption to wpa2. that helped quite a bit, but i was still d/cing often.

and the last thing i did seemed to work better than anything else. i toned down my video settings in my WoW client. now i stay connected for far longer and havent had an issue of it yet. however, my ping still goes up wayyy too high while im in combat.

my bandwidth is a steady 5mb. this is WoW, which generally takes up about as much bandwidth as an internet browser, so i shouldnt be having this problem.

my wireless adapter is a Belkin G 54mbps USB adapter. that could be an issue, but probably not. im well within range of my router.

my video card drivers are up to date as far as i know. im using an EVGA geforce 250 gts with Windows Seven.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Any questions as well. Also, flaming is prefered in this thread.

I'd pull your router out, direct connect to your modem and see how that works. If it works fine then its a setting on your router or the router itself. If it still has issues i would try another computer, if possible.

Those will be the two fastest things you can try.

Doesn't really make sense that you only have issues while in combat. I mean i know combat causes alot more calculations and what not but if your in Ironforge with several hundred people doing lots of shit you should see the problem too.

The first thing to check would be to not use wireless, and plug in a network cable from the computer to the router. I am assuming you are using wireless based on your post, if you aren't you can ignore this.

im currently using my modem, not my router. my mistake. the other computer in the household has only minor connection problems compared to this. it can run TF2 and other games flawlessly. it has no normal browser issues, and neither has mine.

i used a network cable the other day and had the same issue.

If it doesn't do it in cities, then I don't think it's your processing or video card. Could the many simultaneous sounds of combat be causing a problem?

That was so funny... i started to think it was nsfw. But it was good.

Anyway I have had this trouble before.

Some network cards may be equipped with a feature called Checksum Offload. This tends to only be available for network cards capable of gigabit connections. If you have a Gigabit-capable card or an nVidia Networking adapter, please try this:

    # Go to your Control Panel and go into System.
    # Click on your Hardware tab.
    # Click the Device Manager button.
    # Click the + sign next to Network Adapters and double-click your ethernet card.
    # Go to the Advanced tab, then disable Checksum Offload. It may be called Hardware Checksumming or a Checksum of some type. You'll get disconnected from the internet for a while but it should reconnect. If not, reboot your machine. Try the game afterwards.

For those of us with Wireless-N, this is a no can do.
They also offer this link for more ways to fix the problem, http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=21017
I would also recommend port forwarding to your computer for the ports wow specifically uses. This helps usually a lot on any game.

Interesting I'd like to know if that fixes it. I haven't heard of that checksum thing before
