    Default RAM question

I have 2gb now and am going to purchase an extra 2gb or 4gb. Everything else being equal (I don't want to veer off course into discussion about other components because they won't be changing) would there be a noticeable performance difference in gaming (the most strenuous work my computer is likely to do much of) between 4gb and 6gb total on a LGA 775 platform?

You won't see much difference unless you have a lot of other apps open while you game. Graphics are loaded into video memory mostly anyway, so RAM isn't heavily utilised. 4GB will be plenty.

I'll assume you know this but you need a 64 bit operating system to access 4GB or more of RAM.

You probably won't even notice a difference going from 2gb to 4gb. I have 2gb on my gaming machine and never had a game start using the page file.

Then again I don't leave photoshop open when I start steam.

I have my own RAM question.
I am overhauling my computer atm, and I can't find a set of RAM that has good reviews and meets what I am looking for. I am looking for a set of 6gb (3 x 2gb) DDR3 2000 RAM that is i7 compatible. It's going into a new ASUS P6T SE mobo with an 2.4gh 920 quad core. I was just going to go with a well known manufacture of memory but I am starting to shy away from that idea of shooting into the dark. So if anyone has any suggestion I would greatly appreciate it.

Did you try looking at Newegg and sorting by your requirements? This may be helpful also http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...g-i7,2325.html.

I did try that already, but then I am only left with reading random peoples perceptions of the memory.
Also, I forgot to mention that I am trying to keep the price tag under 200.

4GB helps quite a bit, I went from 2GB, and most games were using 1.8GB total. Alt-tabbing was almost out of the question. It's nice having the extra 2GB freed.
