    Default Android Apps

Figured it's time to start a thread about Android apps, since some folks have been asking about them. "Must haves" are in bold.

Tell me what you use too. I'm always on the look out for some new fly apps.

The whole Android market is browsable at Androlib.

    ----

Amazon . If you use Amazon, I highly recommend this. Use included barcode scanner to easily look up reviews of items when in a brick & mortar store. And compare prices.

ASTRO . File manager. Good to have on hand, rarely used.

    Barcode Scanner . Scan barcodes!

Better Cut . Custom Icons. Totally optional. Not free.

Backgrounds . Best background app I've yet found.

City Caller ID . Tells you where the incoming caller's phone is from.

    eBuddy . Multi-client chat program.

Fandango . Movie times and tickets.

    Free Dictionary .

Hungry . Best shopping list app I've found.

Handcent Sms . Great SMS replacement app. Lets you change backgrounds and
colors and everything. Highly recommended. $

Goggles . I rarely use it. Fun gimmick.

Google Sky Map . Must have!

Mobile Package Tracker . Tracks packages. Updates and notifies automatically. Free to try.

NewsRoom . Great RSS app. Max of 36 feeds. Not free.

    Pandora . Duh.

Pure Calendar . Best skinnable calendar widget. $

Sleepy Time . Ambient sounds to sleep to. Free to try I think.

SportsTap . Great sports score and stat tracking. Free to try.

Wapedia . Wikipedia front end. Nice little app.

Yelp . Highly recommend this app.

    xfDroid . Xfire client.

Wifi Analyzer . Spiffy app to choose which displays useful Wifi info.

Where's My Droid . Handy app, rings your droid's phone when you can't find it, even if it's on silent or vibrate mode.

WaveSecure . Remotely wipe your Droid, track it's GPS location. Nice peace of mind.

Beautiful Widgets . Awesome home screen clock and weather widget. Skinnable. $

Astrid . I used this for a while, then stopped, now starting again. Great to-do app, free, and Pure Calendar can sync with it. Love it.

Rehearsal Assistant . Simple and quick voice recorder. Found this yesterday and love it. Whenever inspiration (or deviousness) hits, I can capture my thoughts right quick.

Quick Settings . Does so much shit. You need this shit.

Ringdroid - Create ring tones by editing a music track in your library. Free. Awesomeness!

Currrent ringtone: Bullet in the Head (2:53 - 3:34) - Rage Against the Machine

Most of the apps that I have so far are free, pretty pointless but entertaining. Here are some that I like:

Worldtour. Allows you to sync your background with and streaming webcam.
    My Tracks.
Magnify. Turns the camera into a magnifine glass enabling you to zoom into really fine print.
    The weather Channel.
Movies. Access netflix and some other stuff.
    Pandora.
Babe of the day. Get a picture of a really hot girl every 24 hours.
Australian Slang. Now you can understand bommando
Robo Defense. Similar to desktop tower defense.
TV.com. Watch a bunch of different shows.
Chuck Norris. Lots of chuck norris jokes.

I am getting sick of waking up to a roster.

Is there a good app to use a custom ring tone for the alarm clock? Even better would be to wake up to the radio so I wouldn't have to wake up to the same song every morning.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but there's Wakey Time. There has to be other wake up apps that stream Pandora or play from a randomized playlist. You'd think at least.

You get an automatic refund if you uninstall via the Market within 24 hours of purchasing something.

Today, I rooted my Droid, installed a custom theme, and overclocked it from 550mhz to 950mhz. It's quite significantly faster. Will report back if there's any instability.

    I will.

People have been OC'ing for a week or two now. The general consensus is that battery life is either unchanged or slightly improved - people set it up to use less cycles than stock when idle or asleep.

From what I've seen thus far, 100% of users OC to 800mhz with no problems, 75% get 950mhz fine, and maybe 30% can do 1.1ghz.

By properly setting up OC profiles (easy to do), people typically report temp increases of 2-5*F. That doesn't concern me at all.

The "Smoked Glass" theme looks pretty slick. It's what I've got right now.

Slick...I'll be interested to try it if it proves stable enough over the long haul.
