Man that shit is tragic. Thought it was a publicity stunt when I heard and am still pretty shocked. He was crazy, but pretty much every child star ever has turned out crazy and he was like a million times more successful than any other child star.
He had awesome music, and not just some of it, ALL of it was great. It was like the first music I listened to because of my older brother.

Fantastic Indeed. RIP at last.

I'm not that bothered. I think his music was pretty wack
Although I didn't care for his music, MJ was an extrordinary influence on the entire entertainment industry. We all owe him the respect he deserves.
And now a simple MJ Q&A:
Q: How do you know if MJ has a hot date?
A: If a Big Wheel is parked in front of his house
Q: What's the difference between MJ and a Grocery Bag?
A: Ones white, made out of plastic and dangerous for your kids to play with and the other you carry your groceries in.
RIP MJ.
What kind of influence? I'm having trouble thinking of (good) artists influenced by MJ.
Influence doesn't always mean a blatant similarity. Most rock artists who came after the 80s would list the misfits as an influence more because of their personality than their musical style.
Well Michael Jackson as a person is about equally crap as his music so that makes me wonder if that influence of his is really all that of a good thing. Billy Mays on the other hand, that guy was a hero. He defined the way of doing commercials, he is a man to be admired but where are all the damn Billy Mays tributes?
Now Beat It.
You more admire a man known for infomercials than the guy who iconified an entire genre of music?
Well alright.

Id rather hear Billy sing.
Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells. The lyrics are pretty sweet too--at first glance it looks like a typical love song, but I'm pretty much convinced its about the first time this dude tried the mary jane.
I think its safe to say he enjoyed himself.
I saw Daniel Lanois in concert this weekend. If you've never heard of him before, as I hadn't, he's a famous producer/songwriter who's worked for U2 and Bob Dylan. It was an unbelievably good show, the band was flawless. I'm probably exaggerating a bit since it was at the Mariposa Folk Festival and and a lot of the other acts could have put me to sleep. But it was still awesome.
I could only find one decent video with the full band.

A lot of the concert was great instrumental stuff like the last half of that first video.
they played this one as well but i could only find the acoustic version.
