I recently discovered a band which takes rock to a level I haven't heard in awhile. I was simply blown away after hearing their whole album "Sleep is the Enemy" which came out last year. I think there are a few people here who would love this stuff too.

Thanks for that Zoopy. Thrash Metal is the only kind of Metal I like from that list. I like lots of old Metallica and Megadeth.

How does the older stuff I grew up with get classed? Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy (early), etc.? Does AC/DC (my all time fav hard rock band by a mile) get classed as metal at all?

AC/DC are classified in the one-band-only category of "greatest band of all time."

Black Sabbath was the origin of metal, there style is now Doom metal (Doom metal being slower paced and more of a depressing nature). I don't listen to too much Doom metal, really only Black Sabbath and [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6u_rU0Gcy4:69f12]Sahg[/url:69f12]

Iron Maiden would of been considered Power Metal (which is more Epic and over the top) but I'm sure you can just consider them Heavy Metal due to their standard metal sound. Ozzy I'd just call Heavy metal as well, no real defining qualities.

AC/DC is hard rock, nothing metal about them. Just a bunch of old guys dressed as school boys. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KadwlQ-pfeM:69f12]Metal bands have more respect than that.[/url:69f12]

It has always amused me to hear bands that take a pro-satan anti-christianity stance. Satan only exists as part of christian mythology. Without christianity there is no satan. If we got rid of christianity then satan would inherently be gone too. If anything these black metal bands should be building more churches not burning them down. Kind of hard to play the foil with nothing to stand in opposition to.
