That's a +rep worthy post if I've ever seen one!
Finally got around to seeing it yesterday, since it's pretty tough getting decent seats at a reasonable time at the London IMAX.
Good. After I turned my brain off to the idea that I was going to be intellectually challenged at all after the lousy exposition about "unobtainium" (seriously?) I really started to enjoy it. I really liked the atmosphere and tangible world that was created by the film more than anything else, since after having seen Pocahantus and Last Samurai (yet to see Dances with Wolves) the story and characters didn't seem very original, and were annoyingly a little too one-dimensional. Also couldn't help thinking near the end "If <unnamed TG sandboxer> was watching this, would he be thinking - "YEAH GET THOSE LITTLE BLUE BASTARDS!!!"
Definitely worth seeing just for the spectacle, but I was more impressed with the cinematic feat of creating the biggest film ever, while successfully creating a universe that wasn't previously known/a franchise, and being able to implement the 3D technology in a way that was both subtle and effective. I'd rate a film that could do any one of these, let alone all three.
Surprise:

Great movie.
they used unobtanium in the movie The Core. Apparently using that stuff allowed them to go to the center of the planet lol.
