I'll post the link here as it was creating an audio issue even if it wasn't the same issue. I was running into nasty stuttering at the load up screen and stumbled across this solution.

For those with AMD Dual Core (I think it's only the 939 socket set that has this issue) there is an optimizer.

It allowed me to get through the beginning and I ran through the single player although I had to escape out of some of the cinematics.
