Default New Vista Thread

Hey -

I think the Vista thing is solved now for me.. had some smooth play on Vista 64 in single player after updating my Creative drivers with the new release yesterday.

So I'll be honing my mad skilz for a few days.. then see you on the SERVER!

Do the new creative drivers not suck like nothing has ever sucked before? I'm mostly concerned about the crackle, and also the instability of the older drivers.

I have SP1 installed and FFOW plays smoothly with it.

Notebookreview.com did a review on Vista SP 1: link.

Note that there's also 7 pages of feedback, it's mostly laptop related but maybe worth a look anyway.

edit: a simple google search for "Windows Vista SP 1 review" came up with a few results too. Here is what Cnet had to say

I'm now running Vista 64bit SP1 on my new rig. With 8GB of Ram, this rig is smoking fast. I didn't really try Vista pre SP1, so I can't compare. But, compared with XP I see improvements in nearly everything that I enjoy doing on my PC.

I've tried TF2 and FFoW. They both run fine, although FFoW is still a bit choppy for me. It's really surprising. I'm wondering how much of that is due to their code rather than my new PC.

I suppose I'll try a new vid card in a few months (9800 GTX) after the crazy early adopters have their fill. But I don't know if that will improve FFoW any further and might end up being a big waste of cash.

Ah.... the madness of my hobby continues.

I think some of the choppiness comes from the network code... the game has very limited lag compensation, from what I can tell.

You can download it off their site, or in a couple of weeks it will be downloaded as a Windows Update.
