Yes, it is a bit shocking and sad that FFOW is more or less dead

I suppose its shocking based on the hype it got (but even then there honestly wasnt that much), but based on how crappy the game is its not very shocking.
First, I wont be buying another game from KAOS because of the fact that they blatantly lied about the minimum requirements, and did absolutely nothing to remedy that. The game itself is unimaginative. Theres no ironsights, the gamemode is based on chokepoints rather than strategy, the vehicle maps are either too small or the area you have to fight in is too small, the controls and interface are clunkier than ive ever seen in a game, and they managed to bungle the squad system. Oh, and theres no VOIP (unless theyve finally patched that in, but i couldnt be fucked to find out).
All in all, id rather have bought red orchestra.

I tried to give these guys a chance, but for most of the reasons already stated, this game is as good as dead. Unless they pull something spectacular out of their ass in the next couple of months, they're toast (if they aren't already).
No projected date for VOIP patch, which means it'll be 1-2 months before they even consider implementing it. Not to mention the numerous interface inadequacies and gameplay fixes they need. Either they're giving up or THQ has pulled the pin on the budget in response to underperforming sales.
Even the community forums are a joke now.
In the PC section, you have 38 people viewing "tech issues", while only 8 are viewing "general". That's a clear indicator of the sad state of affairs they're in.
I especially feel for people with limited budgets to spend on gaming, who shelled out for this and ended up wasting their money. Hell, I'm pretty pissed off for myself. I don't feel bad wasting my money on a game I don't like. I didn't like CoD4, but there wasn't anything wrong with the game. I just didn't like it. This game is a rip-off plain and simple.
For you people who can't run it and especially Santa, I'd seriously consider asking for a refund. It doesn't work as advertised and it's defective. You'd have a strong case.
I'd give my $50 to get a tell-all story about what went wrong. I hate being on the outside of these processes and not knowing why this happened and who's to blame. I want to believe that this isn't going to be the norm for PC gaming in the foreseeable future.

The support was slow enough to let any hope fade away.
They did release a patch that did fix VOIP, I read somewhere.
The system requirments didnt matter Santa. I never got better than 45 fps on lows/off..
WTF is that about? 45? I get anywhere from 190 to 320 in COD4 depending on the map.
Maybe the engine. I dont know. They lost me after the first couple weeks.

The patch for VOIP has not been released, you probably read the Xbox patch notes that added new VOIP features.
The frames in FFOW are capped at 60, so thats as high as you can get currently.

Judging from the looks of the replies, doesn't look like much has changed from the beta. Glad I didn't buy this game on release or else that would've been $50.00 down the drain.

Interesting thing to note for anyone who made a Steam purchase (and I expect a retail one too) is that it's still advertised as having "squad-based VOIP" in the product listing. I think this alone would be a good case to ask for a refund.

As much of a failure as the release of this game was, it did introduce some pretty kewl ideas that I hope some future game adopts. I'd a game that adds some of these elements as well as some well thought features of other games could really catch on right now.
I think the "frontlines" feature that determines what points can be capped would make a good "game-type" with well-thought out maps. In conjunction with other gametypes (VIP, Domination, capture the flag) would add lots of flavor and variety and attract a wider audience.
Their implementation of kits with a loadout was a fantastic idea and was pretty well implemented, if not exactly balanced. Some tweaking of this system could pave the way for tremendous variety of gameplay, but would require quite a bit of balancing. There are severals ways this system could be modified, depending on how the "loadouts" are set up, and kit could even vary depending on the loadout chosen.
Drones, for example added a fantastic element to gameplay, and the fact they they cannot cap and there is a built in EMP counter, make them very well implemented and balanced.
Their implementation of the squad system was poor, but it wouldn't be too difficult to mimic the BF2 system without any kind of infringment. Add VOIP done in a similar fashion and you have a pretty sexy interface and communication system for an FPS that would draw and maintain a lot of players.
Adding something similar to the tear gas introduced in BF2 SF with some flashbang, EMP or acid cloud variations that effect drones would be pretty neet. The SF gas system allowed some really kewl concealment possibilites that brought the gme to another level. Combine this type of gameplay with an interactive environment, and the possibilities become endless.
Movement devices similar or even different than the ones in BF2 SF could also be a terrific part of a game, if limitted to specific maps (maybe even existing placements).
There iis a fantastic foundation in place for a company to make a fantastic, immersive game. Given how easy it is to generate a large beta of diehards, the amazing capabilites of new PC's and the complete lack of a quality squadbased game right now, it wouldn't take much effort to create a great game with large fanbase of diehards. All it would take is a little creativity and a genuine attempt by the comapnies involved not to sabotage the final product. Here's to hoping someone fills this void.

Well, I had the minimum requirements--slightly better according to systemrequirementslab--and yet my game ran at 10 FPS when nothing was going on, and then fewer to crash if anything on the screen moved. Minimum requirements should indicate minimum requirements to be able to play the game, albeit at low settings. It was a very obvious attempt to lower the minimum requirements in order to get $50 dollars out of me.
