Default D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR

http://community.kaosstudios.com/showthread.php?t=3312

The great people at the beta forums are completely useless, so ill try here. I typed in "D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR" into google and found this problem spans over multiple games, so this isnt beta specific. Im not sure what to do about it.

It's probably a bug. There are some instances where D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR should be treated as fatal, but if FFOW is the only game you're getting that from it's probably because it's trying to use some DX9 feature that's unsupported or improperly supported on your card. It's normally recoverable.

Give the following a try:

1. Driver Sweeper[/url:8ed60] : Read the instructions. Easy as pie though and it's something I always do before swapping drivers.

2. New Beta Drivers[/url:8ed60]: I'm using these and they have been pretty good to me.

I think it worked in that it stopped the error and I was able to play longer, but this time it simply restarted my computer. I think my card overheated (it was very hot to the touch afterward) so tomorrow Ill put a huge fan in front of it and see if that helps.

Bit perplexing though. I can run COD4 and Crysis very well on my computer, but a game that doesnt look nearly as nice runs significantly slower. I know its a beta and all, but shit.

It might very well be overheating. My old 7800GS got quite hot at times. Make sure there is no dust build up in the cards fan however.

Also, try Rivatuner[/url:0543d] and make a few profiles for setting the fan speed. I always crank my fans up when I go play, the drop them back down to normal during 2D work. If you need help on that, let me know, but check out Rivatuner Guides[/url:0543d] for some quick guides on adjusting fan speeds (which I think the 7800GS can do if I remember mine correctly).

Ya, thats BFG brand, they use the "Overclocked" as a market ploy for people who dont really know what they are looking for. Ya they have the GPU and Memory slightly higher than stock, but its not worth the price difference.

But that shouldnt be the issue, I would bet it on your Display Drivers, or possibly because it is in beta, your one of the few hardware configurations that wont work currently. I would first start with a fresh install.
