It's playable for me now but the mouse controls feel like I'm swimming and I have to keep picking up the mouse just to make a 90 degree turn. The Grenade Launcher deployable is fun as hell but doesn't do much damage.

Grenades, and all explosives in FFOW, do enough damage. However they all have a very small blast radius, so it requires pretty precise placement to be effective. In general the only stationary emplacement worth anything is the rail gun. The others are principally anti-infantry weapons and the stationary emplacements just make you a sitting duck; they don't provide enough cover and you are a very visible target. The most useful pieces of gear in the ground support role are the repair tools and the sentry gun (RS only). Unlike the sentry guns in 2142, these ones are armed with missiles and will attack vehicles too. :-)

Okay, how about this? The complete lack of damage is a damage problem, if I need placement so precise that I have to actually hit them with it I'm just going to use my rifle because it fires faster projectiles faster and packs more of them without requiring me to stand in the middle of nowhere.

Well it's not a complete lack of damage... they'll insta-kill if you get them close enough. But basically yeah. I only use grenades occasionally, if I want to turn the tables on someone waiting in ambush... round corner and pop a grenade into his face from the GL. And I pretty much never use the free-standing GL... Although I could see some potential uses for it in a coordinated squad. The only time you really want to take ground support is if you're driving a vehicle, and then you definitely want to be ground support.

The best kit for just your average soldier is the ECM kit. You want a couple of guys to take drones and air support, but 2/3s of your grunts should be ECM.

Well my first experience using it involved some guy running down a street and when I hit him the explosion and concussion effect (which is very misleading) completely enveloped him and he came out of the smoke like the god damn Terminator. I could've easily killed him with a rifle but I just liked sound effect that thing makes when it lands.

I hope they balance that out by release.

Lovely...
If you run it on High or Very High, turn the foliage slider down.
