Default Major stuttering issue in-game?

First - direct all stuttering jokes to the other thread.

Second, yes my computer is moderately crappy. AMD 2600+ overclocked a bit, 1.5 g memory, ATI x850 XT. I may need to try it w/o overclocking, but it's only a 10% or so boost and everything else is stable.

So yeah - I boot up the game and get massive stutter/clipping even on the menu screen. It literally takes 5 mouse swipes to even get the pointer down to the 'quit' button.

My pc does meet the minimum specs but barely. If anyone's heard about this issue, pls let me know. I'm too lazy to dig around game tech support fora for a game I'm not even sure I want to play.

Or else, I'll just wait until the new rig is built before trying it again.

i would prolly wait till the new rig is built...that 2600 is at least 4 yrs old and so is the 850xt. Im assuming you have everything set to as low as possible?

Try updating your video card drivers (!) and then do a defrag on your hard drive. Updating your video card drivers is probably the most important of the 2.

If that doesn't work, then get a can of lighter fluid, sprinkle on your pc and then light it on fire which will give you the perfect excuse to update

hahaha great advice so far.

I will try updating the drivers. The last time I did that I broke TF2 but I'm sure valve has corrected that by now.

This may be an issue with Pixel Shader 2.0 which was only supported in the last patch. You are using the 0.3.1 patch right?

EDIT: Looking at the 0.3.1 patch notes theres this:

I have an AMD 3000+ and although i get some stuttering at the start of rounds, especially in 48 man oilfields servers, its still playable.

Hmm. Ok I'll see if I can update my drivers and see what's what.

I can't even get into a menu, the stuttering/lag is so bad. It's barely possible to get the mouse pointer down to click on 'quit'.

Ah, i think the difference between our rigs is that I have a gfx card with shader 3.0, and you dont. Thats probably the difference between my playable game and your unplayable game. Since they know about it, im sure itll be fixed before release.

May want to submit a ticket here. If it still doesn't work.
