I seemed to have a different problem than most. My PhysX driver wasn't being updated so every time I tried to launch the game, I recieved the dreaded "XXX has stopped working" message. (No, I don't have a PhysX card, but the game seems to need the driver)

Every time it tried to install the PhysX driver, I recieved a fatal error and had to quit out. So I used a work around to finally install the driver and the game now loads up just fine.

If you are having issues with the install not being able to update the PhysX driver, this could also be the source of your problem. I have an X-Fi card and the game plays just fine with sound so that wasn't the issue that some other people seem to be having.

Just really sucks that the game is having so many Vista issues. Seems like there really won't be one easy fix.

From the Ageia site if you're having the same issue.

Quote:
Driver Fatal Error on Vista Install

We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it. This issue is not limited to AGEIA, in fact many installers from several other software venders are experiencing the same problem with Vista.

In the mean time you can download the driver to your desktop, and create a shortcut to it by right clicking on the file and selecting "create shortcut". Then right click on the shortcut, then properties. At the end of the target line ad the line /quiet. This will put the installer in silent mode and will ignore any errors the OS is returning. Please ensure that the command line /quiet is at the very end of the target line.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for choosing AGEIA Technologies

There was also one about XFire and disabling its voice chat in the game. Let me see if I can find the post.

But if you don't have XFire running then that one is out as well.

I find this very embarrasing for the company...first day of release and they are already flooded with problems. It seems more testing should have been done. I'll pick up the game once Vista issues are solved, no use in buying it and then getting frustrated.

Xfire sometimes throws an exception, but even with it closed it still explodes.

Here's a nice list of some of the common issues and how to fix them (if there is a fix):
