At this point, I would pretty much NOT recommend using Steam for this game. The DL is huge and if the way it was patched is any indication, the Steam patches will lag way behind the "official" patch releases.

Example is that the patch was released around 10 am EST and the Steam version didn't come out until almost 9pm EST. Not to mention the MASSIVE size difference between the patches.

80 MB compared to Steam's 4.something GB patch.

That might not be how it always is, but it's something to keep in mind before you choose how to purchase the game. Do the perks Steam offers outweigh all the negatives for the moment? That's up to each individual.
I was actually impressed with how quick the Steam patch came out considering how rough the overall release has been. I was expecting to have to wait a day or something like that. As it was I just played on a couple 1.0.0 servers for a while while I waited for the patch. I'd buy it on Steam again if I had a do-over. I am done with physical media for software.

Yep, I'm still going the Steam route. The hiccups are KAOS' fault, not Steam's. I doubt the problems will persist for the next patch and "later that day" isn't a long time to wait for a patch.

Well it's official that I gotta wait for my new PC sometime in March or April before I can play this. I'm down to about 10 free gigs on my hard drive, with no room to move anything else off it. Looks like I won't be missing the time away while they iron out the final issues.

Me too.. I've been pleased with Steam's performance for product delivery.

Edit: I just initiated the download - should be ready to go when I get out of the office - Pending Vista issues of course.
