Around 10 years ago, I was signing up for a new online game. After having experienced annoying name conflicts in the past, I decided to grab something really strange so that I wouldn't have to change it again. For reasons I don't know, my mind wandered to an old Monty Python movie, and the Knights of Ni. In one part, they say something along the lines of "we are no longer the knights who say 'Ni', we are now the knights who say ecki ecki ecki pikang etc." From my not-so-accurate memory of that, I chose ickyptang as my new name. I've never had a conflict with that name.

But of course it didn't take long for me to shorten it and start using icky. Now I always use some name variation which starts with icky. I am back to having conflicts with icky.

My previous name was chosen when me and 2 of my friends got online to play Subspace and we needed names. We decided to all use the names of beers, but after finding out every beer name under the sun was taken, I went with Blue24.

Gnoma

Mine is from my WoW character of choice which is a story in itself. I know I play WoW so you can send all the PM jokes you want to.

But the name Gnoma was originally Gnomasexual to have some good laughs online. But someone was offended by the name and forced Blizzard to get me to change it. I think the real reason was to take the name for themselves since I saw someone later in game with the same name. When Blizzard made me change it Gnoma is what I came up with and it has then since stuck. Gnomes, Gnubit and others have also come but Gnoma is what I like.

If we talk AIM screennames mine came from a nickname and my soccer number in High School. Sorry missed the meaning of the thread this morning in my boredom haze

Meers + 007 = Meers007. My brother made the screen name back in 3rd Grade, and I don't use anything else because otherwise I'd forget what it was.

Golden Salmon

my original screen name was typically some variant on "sasquatch" a name that came from my oversized hands and feet (to give you an idea, by the 6th grade i was about 5'3'' and wore a size 13 EEEE sneaker). the Golden Salmon tag comes from a halo account i set up on my friends x box. My friend picked out the color for my master chief, and of course he found the crappiest color on the list, salmon. I thought it was funny so i kept the account name as salmon too. later i switched to a gold color but kept the salmon so Golden Salmon was created.

Conscript

lol have aton, back in the day with UT I went with "Muaddib" from Dune. Went "Snipe40" in TFC and was a kickass sniper and soldier although not really sure where I got the number, It just sounded good to me. In RTS games I usually do "Mitsouko1" got that from some of my dads cologne that was lying around and happened to notice it. "Conscript" was from RedAlert 2, basic soviet infantry and my favorite side to play. "Starman" is from an awsome old SNES rpg game called EarthBound. In DOW use the name "Krieg_Hammer".

Hidus

I think the first handle I ever used was "Jester" (cliche, I know) back in the days of dialup BBSs. Used a variety of names until I got into MMOs then I decided to pick one name and stick with it so people could recognize me from game to game. I wanted something reasonably uncommon so I wouldn't be constantly running into other people with the same name. Ended up with "Hidus" which is a twist on "hideous". In games with lastnames I use "Hidus Horribilis" which is supposed to conjure up imagery of a terrible beast. Either that or my overall skill level, depending on what kind of day I'm having.

Zoopy

When I was a kid I used to draw a lot. I used to draw crappy little comics with a slew of screwed up creatures. One of them happened to be named Zoopy, he sort of looked like a fox things that can shape-shift his arms.

When I got older my fiends and I started drawing more comics, so we came up with a group of guys who represented us. I couldn't think of a name for my guy so I just called him Zoopy. Later in my friends comic he kept referring to my character as "T" (in reference to the first initial in my name), so I switched his name to "Zoopy T".

This is about the time I started playing online games, so I always went with Zoopy_T or ZoopyT. Now after playing so long and not really drawing anymore I just shortened it down to Zoopy since no one ever called me Zoopy T anyways.


I'm not really sure how I came up with the name Zoopy to begin with. I was probably like seven when I came up with it.
