Good man.

See, now that I think about it more, the movie wasn't bad, but the way they presented it was just awful. The story went a wacky way, but otherwise it wasn't bad. Lucas just needs to write the scripts, and someone has to slap his hand and say "NO MORE CGI!" Just because he can doesn't mean he should.

I heard someone say that there was "No Tension" in the movie and I agree with that statement. There is lots of action, but there wasn't really a time where Indy seemed challenged by the fighting or by any of the puzzles. The CGI was cool, but this movie had no guts and is a failure because of it. The dialogue was weak, the concept of this family of Indy's coming together came off poorly and even Karen Allen who played Indy's mom lost her accent from the first movie.

I would rate this movie as close to a D. It doesn't compare to previous movies in the series, and similar styles of movies like The Mummy, National Treasure and even King Solomon's Mines trounce this. In my mind, it's the same thing that caused the most recent Star Wars movies to suffer (my opinion) is that you don't end up caring about the characters.

Although I agree with Lucky Shot for the most part, Star Wars III wasn't particularly bad. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.

I liked the new indiana jones movie. The only time I was really upset was the dumb monkey scene that didn't fit and was far too obviously a ploy to use CGI, but the rest I found enjoyable and true to form.

I think loved movie franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones get built up and people become unable to evaluate the original movies for what they were. I thought the third star wars was pretty good and the second was... passable. But I think I can only come to that conclusion when I make sure I don't consider the original movies with the childhood nastalgia that I want to use.

The original Star Wars trilogy still holds up to deep scrutiny though. It's just amazingly well plotted with great characters and themes, as well as the special effects which to this day look better than most of the CG effects used in later films. George Lucas has obviously lost whatever touch he originally had, which is difficult to say, since the best film in the series was directed by Kershner instead, as well as having two co-writers. Basically, Lucas can't direct or write dialogue as well as he can give general characters and storylines, which is why the prequel trilogy failed. He was definitely in over his head.

Still, the Clone Wars animated movie comes out in the fall and I'll probably see it, because I'm a sucker.
