Default King of the Cage - Crazy KO

I just happened to see this last night. It was freaky and funny. The commentators seem to be oblivious to what actually happened, even after seeing the replay several times.

I'm not sure what you mean. Just that their heads hit each other?

Or do they not know that?

Yes, their heads very obviously slammed into each other, and the announcer kept saying things about the punches, as if they had actually knocked each other out with punches. The result, after a clash of heads ended the fight, was obvious, and yet the announcer went on about how difficult it was for the judges.

Oohhh. It just seemed so clear. Yeah, now I see what you mean. It feels like they maybe realized their mistake, but thought that if they asserted themselves enough it'd be true.

It was pretty awesome how they both punched eachother out though.

Wetherspoon got knocked out clean with a shot to the temple. Lapsley ran into Wetherspoon's head on the followthrough and rocked himself but he was not out. Couldn't tell whether Lapsley was submitting or not - only Herb Dean knows for sure.

I'm trying to find a vid of the first Hughes/Newton fight which had a crazier finish imo.

Edit: here it is. Fast forward to the end. Hughes got caught in a triangle and had no idea wtf just happened but he recovered faster so he got the victory.

Let me get this straight. You know for a fact that in the fraction of a second before the two heads collided Wetherspoon was knocked out? I'll agree that Lapsley landed a punch, but I find it unlikely that anyone could determine conclusively what effect that punch had in that time.

I also have to disagree with the statement that Lapsley was not out. If he didn't lose consciousness, he would have been back on his feet in a second. He came back faster, but his disorientation was very plain to see.

Once the heads smashed together, everything else became irrelevant anyway.

He got hit clean to the temple with a shot that spun his head around. The head on head contact was just icing on the cake. And "rocked" means disoriented. Unconscious = nappy time. You don't move your arms and legs like that when you are out. Most you will ever see from an unconscious guy is some twitching/muscle reflex movement.

People who get knocked out are very often only out for a second. You've probably seen it a hundred times if you watch MMA and boxing. They hit the ground due to the fact that their brain has taken a brief holiday, and usually they quickly get their arms and legs in front of them to defend against what is coming next. Whether it is 1 second or 15 seconds, it is still unconsciousness.
