I used to hate in the original Civ, you'd have a huge, modern army, fusion power, nuclear weapons, and then you'd have a city raised by barbarians with spears since you didn't bother defending it.

Nice. I believe it was in Rise of Nations where I played a 4v4 with some friends, and not everyone had played it before. I called for help in the bottom right, and another guy on my team said "I've got a HUGE army, I'll send them over". As the large force of upgraded enemy tanks descended on my town, a stream of friendly units moved into my territory from the left. I thought I was saved, and I scrolled up to see 2 dozen knights on horseback charging in to battle the tanks.

I laughed and laughed and laughed...

Well, if life were anything like the Civ games, they'd have a substantial chance of not only taking down the chopper with arrows, but the modern battle tank that followed as well.
