I've played a bit, and I'll call it more of an alpha right now instead of a beta. It's far from polished, but if you can look past that a bit it shows some real promise. I've liked the maps so far, mostly city type maps so far though.

Those Bulgarians are such hacks...
Unfortunately, no matter how much we beg for "good" games, money is what makes the world go around. They actually don't care if it's good as long as it generates a good profit. Much like the music industry, the bulk of the product we get is being driven by the tastes of semi-retarded teenagers.

If bf3 was just bf2142 with new maps/skins/gadgets i would buy it. Bf2142 corrected all the things that took multiple patches to work out in bf2. Though bf2142 had less chances for air whoring, which I liked to do. I hope they dont remove all the air in bf3. Jets are a bit out of place on urban type maps, but having helicopters adds another layer to the game.

I thought the air balance in 2142 was pretty good overall. You could still get gunship raped if you didn't defend against it properly but there were counters in place. The transport of doom was kind of dumb but it usually didn't impact the overall round that much.
What's most interesting to me from the leaked details is the expanded command structure. If I understand it correctly there is another level of command in place in between squad level and commander. I can see this being extremely useful based on the large scale scrims we did in 2142.

Re: Upcoming Games
I don't see Battlefield 3 coming in the next year, maybe late 2009 (depending on the success of the console game). That rumour sheet thing seems like a cup of feces.
