Call of Duty: World at War
I dont have too much information as of yet, but apparently the fifth in the series is going back to world war II. The thing im excited about is that apparently they are going to have a squad system for multiplayer, with squad specific way points and spawns influenced by where your squad mates are. There are apparently also going to be tanks and what not, which indicates to me that the maps will be larger than the tiny little crappy ones from COD4.

Apparently they're continuing their effort to make things grittier. It's the Pacific Theater this time, which means lots of killing of Japanese soldiers. Also, Flamethrowers are introduced, along with a new swimming element (move at half speed in water, can't sprint). I guess there's a katana for melee, though that might just be cinematic.
Check out the teaser:

This won't be developed by the guys who made C0D4 though, it will be from the guys that made C0D3. That's why at the end of the credits on Single-Player, the music has the guy saying "The third installment for Infinity Ward" like 100 times. C0D1, 2 and 4 were from IW, with C0D3 being made by - I believe - Treyarch, as is C0D5. It seems that C0D are doing a system of alternating between developers for these games, so that the 2 developers get longer to work on their respective titles, for 2 years as opposed to 1. Seems a clever system, and explains shy C0D3 had such a different feel to the other C0Ds.

this day and age, i would be surprised if they didnt release it for consoles. That said, im still looking forward to it. I know infinty ward isnt involved but it already looks decidedly better that CoD3. Ill wait for reviews tho.

I'm not a big fan of WWII scenarios, so I probably won't buy it. But the 4 player co-op sounds good.
I just found this: http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/ca...60914515327055
It's just a rumour though.

Methinks the Japanese officers used to carry swords, but I think it was mainly cinematic.

I'm almost certain carrying swords was in existence at the time, given the propensity towards tradition and ceremony. I think they probably rarely had use for them in normal combat, though mopping up the wounded could be a different matter.
I didn't notice the non-IW thing. I'm a lot less excited about CoD5 now, though I'll reserve my final judgment after playing it. I was a huge fan of CoD2 and CoD4. I think the CoD series is home to some of the best single-player shooter experiences out there, along with really fun LAN/Internet multiplayer. I did not care for CoD3, however.
