Now that I have a working one (my EDGE one they kept replacing with refurbished ones), my favorite app is the Apple Remote. In my sound system at home, I have a Sony Digital Living System computer, and I have iTunes installed. I just use that library and play it through the speakers on my deck. The remote lets you browse playlists, put it on shuffle, and even lets you change the volume. And the best part is that it is free.
Also, another tip I posted a while back (after the 2.0 update) is a sort-of fix to the delay of opening applications. If you do a soft reset (hold the power button and home button until the Apple appears), that usually takes the delay off. It worked with my EDGE and it works with my 3G.

SimplifyMedia is my favorite new app. Love the Remote app too. I also use GuitarToolkit quite a bit, HoldEm is extremely fun for a software poker game, and I use VNC quite a bit as well.

How do you guys have your email set up? I used IMAP and it seems I don't get notified of new emails unless I manually go into my email and check. Is this normal? I'm used to messages appearing automagically a minute or 2 after being sent to my blackberry.

Ok I figured it out. The default setting was to only check manually for accounts that don't support push. I changed it so it checks every 15 minutes. That's a weird default imo.

It saves battery and makes sure nobody sues them for excess data. If they turn on the checking themselves, then they are responsible for the transfers. A lot of people get crappy low-data plans and go ballistic when they get charged for over usage.

When I went to pick up my iphone at the rogers store there was a girl in front of me in line asking one of the reps if she could buy an iphone but disable data so it was purely a voice phone. The guy kept trying to tell her there was no point getting an iphone if you didn't have data access but she wouldn't listen.

heh, more common than you think. A lot of girls buy it because it's vogue. I have a friend who uses nothing but voice and SMS. When she bought it, she didn't even realise it doubled as an iPod. She was still taking her iPod to the gym separately. She pays for data, but never uses any of the data features. No email, nothing. I only recently had to help her install the Facebook app, which she still doesn't really understand because it looks different from "normal" Facebook.
