Thread: GTA4 on PC

My Windows LIVE is "theeANGELofDEAT", no "H", damn charter limits...

I got the game last Sunday, but have only played about three hours of the SP...

Then last night I tried out the MP, the browser or lack of one is a HUGE FAIL.
DeathMatch and TDM are always the same.. Run around a few square blocks with 4-22 players. I cant play TDM for long. I tried to check out many of the other gamemodes, but there were no one playing any of them BUT..

Team Mafiya Jobs(I swear that is how they spell it ).. It was fucking awesome...
basically 1-4 teams of players all trying to make money by doing odd jobs for "Peckerhead boss man", lol.. and everyone is going after the same job.
I joined two different games, the first was three teams of about 7-8 players.. We would spawn in within a few blocks of teammates, and very few cars. So it encourages you to get a four door and load up with gun men.. and go kill the other teams on the way to the job. This server did not seem to have the police involved. but the second server was four teams of 6ish and it was total chaos, there seemed to be five star alert on one of the other teams. Everytime we got within sight of the green team there were cops everywhere. Someone was using the RPG like it was a Pez dispenser. It was fucking brilliant, there were exploding cars going off everywhere, pedestrians everywhere were running around screaming. I saw at least three armored cars piled up in flames on the way to a job, not to mention the dozens of burning cop cars... and it I didnt see any lag during to most extreme episodes.

I believe I am going to purchase this game on Steam shortly.

I can't get enough of GTA4 on the PC. The Video Editor keeps me coming back for more and more. Pretty much endless possibilities of movie ideas when you combine GTA4 with an in-game Video Editor.

Also, Hangman's NOOSE multiplayer mode is crazy addictive when you have a good team.

Lost you last night. . I was in game, then I noticed I was spectating you while I was dead.. But when I went to find and pick you up, once you were AFK, and then spawned in front of someone with a ride, I went with them. I gave up, then here you come to my rescue, sort of . Sry about TS, I could not hear you at all.

But you missed out on the craziest game right after that.. It was Team Mafia, and a bugged mission for getting a 'Patriot' and driving it somewhere, but the 'Patriot' could not be touched; could not get in it, or blow it up (RPGs and nades = nothing).. It turned into mad-max-TDM at the south end of 'Central Park' and 'Times Square' as the buses and firetrucks were the only cars left. By the time the 'Patriot' disappeared most of the players had left, and there was only 4 minutes left. It was fun though.

There are some bugs in the multiplayer game, not just the one above.. but there have been many times I have problems getting in cars, or had teammates struggle to get in my car.

If you dont wait for the animation to finish while switching weapons it will fall back to previous weapon and fire that RPG you were holding... or back to the AK, when you switch to RPG to fire on that ambulance full of enemies, and instead, pepper the windshield before getting plowed over again.

There have been many times the delivery spot just will NOT take the briefcase/package. I watched a guy trying to drop off a package for what seemed like five minutes. The rest of our team defended off the other teams while he tried to give a pound of something to the AI gangsta. Until, all the other packages got delivered, then EVERYONE came to this site, some 'other' team member barreled in with a car killing them both. The package must have changed hands a couple dozen times before the round ended, a half hour later (with little to no vehicles). It was never delivered. But it was fun.

I swear, the longer the game goes on the less and less people (AI) and cars are on the streets. In the beginning, there are hundreds of cars.. at least ten at each stop light and pedestrians running everywhere. After a half hour they are gone, by the end the streets are barren, so these guys who set up a game for an hour, end up with a server of people running around on foot for the last half hour.. or not, as half the players leave when the cars are used up.

Obviously running the game on a host PC is a craptastic idea, and I have to go back and change my stance on the no lag comment above.. I joined a game yesterday that had four players, when I joined I spawned with a teammate that was laggin all over my screen.. I then saw an enemy car for a couple random screenshot moments a minute later, just before a RPG from no where, blew up my car and my teammates. and the game crashed.
I also had my game crash multiple time when more than ten cars were on fire or blowing up... only to find those same players starting another game, as if we had all crashed at once, I asked, but as usual no one ever replies.

I saw an enemy RPG go through a teammates car (3 in it) and hit the building behind, catching other parked cars on fire.. That same car load went down the street, killed the RPGer, came back, just in time for the burning cars to go off killing everyone, crashing the game.

What a fucking pain in the ass to play this game. A god damn 15 gig download coupled with another 45 minutes of downloading updates for my PC just to get in the thing. The game REQUIRES XP Service pack 3 to play. GRUMBLE GRUMBLE SNARF.

Now I have to make a games for windows account? and another fucking rockstar social club account? what in JESUS? Although I do like having the ability to now send funny messages to my friends on XBOX live.

So, is there any secret to getting more performance out of the game? I mean it's OK but it could be a lot better.


With that all out of the way - the game is great. How "livable" they made the city is damn near the most attention to detail I've ever seen in a game.

Also, I haven't tried it yet but the multiplayer potential for this game is amazing. There are so many times I wish I had a buddy in the car with me while the police were swarming.
