I hear if you fill up a hard drive completely, so there's no more room for files, it runs faster. True story.

I'm not sure that it's the computer that is your problem.

The problem seems to be between the chair and the monitor.

You need to get to at least %15 free space just to get a good defrag to happen. Delete some of that pron.

I had to repartition my main drive last night to make some more room for Steam games (read: FFoW) and I hadn't defragged or done any housecleaning in ages. 6 hours later I finally have enough room. :|

When a drive reaches 85-90% used, the head will have to move a lot more when it writes files, scattering files and basically eliminated sequential operations turning everything into random I/O. This will kill any application that rellies the bandwidth of sequential data and absolutely kills your write times.

I remember one day checking how fragmented the disk was on a computer I used in a lab at school. It was worse than Santa's. There was NO blue anywhere on it. It was a solid block of red.

well. my computer is doing the same damn thing that happened before christmas. it loads to the windows xp loading screen (the one with the bar that scrolls repeatedly across the screen) and then refuses to load any further. nothing (including safe mode) can get me into windows.
