Angry General Tips & Tricks

I thought I'd start a thread on more general (non class-specific) tips & tricks for basic gameplay.

There is an excellent thread at the Hellgate Forums on [url=http://forums.hellgatelondon.com/showthread.php?t=22564:a018b]Mods & Their Effects[/url:a018b].

Upgrading Legendary stuff in the Nano Forge is broken. You'll see a decrease in stats on the first upgrade (with high stat requirements). It may start to improve after the third upgrade though (stat and level requirements will still rise hough).

Hold off on spending attribute points until you need them for a good item (within the reason of your class, i.e: I shouldn't pump strength into my Envoker just to use a rifle). If you find you are running out of health or mana, just plug a point or two into Stamina or Willpower. If you find you are hitting weak with melee weapons or your gun's reticle is spreading too fast then pump a couple points into Strength or Accuracy (These are harder to see due to different weapons having different effects).

I dunno about the nanoforge. I've heard reports that trying to upgrade a legendary item resulted in a downgrade the first 2 times, an upgrade the 3rd, and a downgrade the 4th. It seems hard to believe this was the intended behaviour.

I've used it a number of times to upgrade my weapons and I know the "casual damage" number (the one you see in the mouseover) definitely went up but I wasn't paying attention to whether the real weapon power (the one you see in the detailed view) went up.

I also read that if you upgrade the weapon past the ceiling of the mods it holds they will cease to function. For example if you have a lvl 20 sword with a mod in it intended for lvl 15 - 20 items and you upgrade the sword, you lose the mod effect although it remains in the socket.

This is why I mostly equip rare weapons unless the legendary version has a crapload of legendary properties. Rare items can be levelled more consistently and you can pay to add properties without fear of being ripped off.

This is correct. Always check the max levels of your mods before you upgrade. In some cases, you will want to remove the mods and replace them with better ones over time. You can make a good weapon last quite a while with a bit of attention.

/stuck is not only good for when you get stuck, but when you want to get to town quickly without using PRDs. /stuck always brings you to the gate closest to the town for that instance.
