Funny thing is, I turned out to be so horrible at this game, I couldn't even delete my account properly. This means I will maybe give this game another chance after all, now that I know how to build walls.

I am currently researching a thing called Professional Army and it will take 2 days, 1 hour and 49 minutes to complete.

You need to expand your academy.

Strange thing I didn't know about walls and the purposes of trade ports. I'm pretty sure I had read through the whole tutorial.

Your Trade Port is used against you if you are pillaged, regardless if they are on your island or not. Walls are the yellow flag at the every edge of your town and provide a defense bonus -- whether it provides a defense bonus against coastal attack i am not sure.
If you are blockaded, you can also use your own trade ships and send out your goods 12 hours across the map to ensure the goods don't get pillaged, just make sure to recall them back unless you are feeling charitable.

Some kind of sub-forum in other MP games.

Definitely do not expand your trade ports as it only works against you. Who cares how long it takes to load up boats, except that the faster they load, the more the enemy takes from you.
Tips:
1) Expand your academy in order to get more scientists to speed up research times.
2) Raid cities called Polis(i) to get wood, send at least 5 slingers and have a boat handy. The (i) means he is inactive and has 2 days worth of goods. I donate half of the lumber pulled to the Sawmill or Mine.
3) If you raid, you need at least one Transport ship handy. A raid without a cargo ship means you will walk away with 3 units of lumber per unit you attack with. A raid with a boat will net you 60 if the defending city has no Trading Port, 200 if they have a level one trading port (More if they upgraded it).
4) Expand your marketplace and have several thousand in cash to snap up some of the stupid sales some people have. Going rate for wine is 25, yet I picked up 600 units at 2 per.
5) Most raids come by water and you can protect yourself from these raids by leaving one attack vessel in the harbor.
6) Early game asset importance is Marble then Crystals. I am at a point where Wine is more important then either as I can expand so quickly that I can buy other goods as needed.

Is this what you are seeing Lucky?
If so, its just a bug, and it has no effect on you. Nothing happens once it reaches, its just your ship returning and it says that. Hopefully its fixed soon though.

I have seen that also Undead.
The reason why I say most raids come by water is that they require a cargo boat to take away their booty. Further, even if they attack via land, they can't land a cargo ship to yank extra resources from you if you have an attack boat. Having an attack vessel will discourage the pests from being able to land but of course does nothing against the people who are determined and have the strength to attack you.
