Thread: Best Naval Units for Ikariam

This is just a basic number crunching session to figure out the best naval units for the job. Here is the soldier equivalent. The analysis is based off of Upkeep cost and disregards Sulfur , Lumber and Build Time as sunk costs. This is done as Upkeep cost is the only real determination over time if you are not under any time or resource pressures. So what is the best unit in your Navy?

Pulling info from the Ikariam Wiki we can start to figure out what soldiers provide the best bang for the buck. Note, this does not include any workshop upgrades.



When attacking, the Flamethrower and Paddle Wheel Ram gain a 30% attack bonus. Defending home harbors, Diving Boats and Ballista's gain a 30% defense bonus.

Best Offensive Naval units go to: The Mortar ship has the strongest attack per upkeep regardless of bonuses. With the attack bonus, the Flame Thrower and Paddle Wheel Ram both move up to 1.15 squeezing out the Catapult ship for second, otherwise the Catapult Ship deals out more damage when in a home city.

Best Defensive Naval units go to: The Diving Boat and Mortar Ship can take the most punishment with the Ballista right on it's tail. When you toss in Defense bonuses for defending your own port, then the Mortar ship is the best unit and then the Ballista is the second best.

Best Overall Naval unit: The Mortar Ship provides the best bang for the buck with the Catapult and Diving boats close behind. The Ballista also performs extremely well.
