It always shits me to tears how gameplay videos are demonstrated by people who seem to have mangled stumps for hands. Seriously, I don't think you could possibly choose worse players to demonstrate games than the ones companies seem to choose for gameplay vids. Is there not one person at a game review company who actually knows how to play games?

Those players probably pass for "highly skilled" in the console world.

    Valve discusses PC vs. Console.

I think the XBox360 is running a detuned 7800GT or something right? Modern budget cards rip that to shreds... and a $150 Core2Duo - or hell, a $180 quad-core - should just dominate whatever wimpy processor the 360 calls home.

High end PC components were beyond consoles at release. We're now at the point where low end gaming stuff beats up on consoles. In another twelve months, console graphics will be laughable.

I have to think it would be a little better than that because my system would be similar to that and I definitely can not run oblivion/cod4/gow/unreal 3 anywhere near as well as a 360 can. Granted they have it as optimized as possible for 360.

I'd say it looks so clunky because most likely the playtesters aren't use to playing a FPS with a 360 controller..Or quite possibly any FPS at all...Most of the time they aim too far off or in a totally wrong direction and their aiming makes the video feel pretty clunky.

Bhack's video was great, that zombie grenade thing was epic.

The 360 probably runs at a lower resolution.

Can you get side-by-side screen grabs of any of those titles running on both systems? That way we can compare image quality.

I really don't know what 1080i would be relative to a comp screen resolution but I think it would be higher than your average. Then again for all we know valve is focusing more on the pc version and less on the 360 version. The screen shots would also need to factor format, res, and system so we probably need to wait for some site to do a comparison.

Games don't use interlaced resolution. It will likely be 720p, which is 1280x720. Considerably below what even most lower end video cards are capable of.

Remember guys that this is the Source Engine, so it will likely look a lot like HL2 does. Most of us can run HL2 on all max settings, which in my opinion is still really awesome by today's standards. They are also constantly improving the engine, so I'd say that this engine will have features above what you see in HL2.

I think the game looks great and more importantly, will run at very high frames on most systems built within the last 2-3 years.

I was using cod4 as my reference because I have seen it on the settings I have in single player at 1680x1050 on my comp and on a screen at 1080i. I would say that not only did the 1080i look better but it ran smoother by a long shoot.

Kind of pointless because resolution isn't exactly a factor in the image quality of most of those gameplay videos because they are taken via camera so they aren't really going to look amazing. I think the difference is the pc videos have higher quality textures on weapons and different lighting.

This sounds perceptual to me, because 1080i is considerably lower real resolution than 1680x1050. The difference to me between 1080i and 720p or 1080p is huge.
