The Basics
A few tips for our TR rookies:
- You recieve a clone credit at level 5, 15 and 30. Or every time you have to make a Career decision.
- You don't HAVE to clone at those levels, but that's where you get your freebies. Which is nice because it gives you the option to try the other path on your tree if you find you don't like your main, or you just want a change of pace. Personally, I see no reason to clone at 5 because it takes you all of 20 minutes to get there anyway, so save your credit.
- Your last name is considered your character name for all intents and purposes. It is also carried on to EVERY character you make on the server. So make damn sure you like what you have. I missed out on "Nemesis" on our main server but have it on the other 2. Needless to say, I'm still hunting down the bastage that grabbed it first and tormenting the hell out of him.
- Always grab a waypoint whenever possible, same goes for a drop ships and warp gates. Once you have a waypoint to a base, you can do an instant teleport there from any other base that you have a waypoint in. (Waypoints are the huge blue pillars of light inside the bases) Dropships allow you to transfer to new zones, and warp gates allow you to hop between planets.
- Every zone has at least 2 bases on them that are open to Bane attack. They are depicted on your main map by a Flag icon. If the Bane has the base the flag will be red and you will be unable to use the Waypoint or have access to any quests there. Those bases are also how you gather Assault and Defend tokens. Which leads me to....
- ALWAYS find the ToO quest giver in every new Zone. ToO = Targets of Opportunity. They are multi pronged quests designed for each zone. If you complete all the steps, you are granted a clone credit. The credit is only applied to the character that completes the ToO. But the more clone credits you get, the more you can "respec" your character.
- When you clone, all your characters Skill points are reset, however your Attributes are not. (at least for now)
- It is usually a good idea to save your skill points until you hit 15. That way you can max out some abilities/main armor on your third tier as soon as they are available. One possible exception to this is the Soldier line as Firearms at pump 5 is amazing. Chainguns are addicting as hell, but they eat up ammo and there is serious arguement on how well they scale. For PvP, they are just NASTY however.
- To me, it's best to decide early on what armor set you plan on wearing and then max it out. Most people go by the 3rd tier set, however there are benifits to some of the others. It just comes down to playstyle and what fits your character. The nice thing about TR is that it's real hard to gimp your character, and if have, clone. It's that simple and also why doing the ToO missions are so important.
- You will gain 90% of your XP from quests. Get them all and complete them all.
- Instances scale depending on the party size.
- The game can be very solo friendly however it's a lot more fun in a group. XP ramps up as well, but it's not a game killer if you're running around solo. You can easily log in for an hour or two and feel like you've made good progress regardless on your level range or if you were able to find a group. Hell, some instances can even be soloed, especially if you're a few levels higher than the zone. So don't let it hang you up if you can't find a group, you can always go back and finish it later once you've gained a few levels.
That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I'll add more as we go along. If you have any questions, especially about the Soldier Tree, feel free to post it here, and I'll tell you what I know.
If anyone else has any tips, post away. The more information/perspectives we have, the better.
