Next Class for Updates?
I know that there was a thread on this, but being so far removed from you guys, allow me this one chance to feel like I'm participating more.
Anyway, now that two releases have come out, and we've gotten twice as much of a feel for the types of unlocks that Valve makes, what do people think will be the next class update/what weapons?
I personally think it'll be the Scout, but the Heavy is my second place candidate. The reason I think it'll be the scout is because with the backburner and compressed air, the Scout is now easily the most fragile class (which is part of the concept, I know), with a pretty steep learning curve. I don't think they'll dumb him down, but I think they'll have unlocks that will allow you to play a different style from being forced to outmanuever your opponents, and maybe reward precision with aiming instead of just finding the right path to hit the other team from behind.
So my guess is a rapid fire, fairly accurate gun to replace the scatter (maybe a nail gun), a pistol that crits when hitting the back (chase down runners/finish someone off), and a bat that crits from above. If one of either the pistol or bat, the other likely won't be focused on crits, but I think that Valve likes the idea of playing around with different critting circumstances.
If the Heavy gets the update, I think a better for long-range primary might come in. Maybe it'll be more focused (haha) and have less of a cone of fire. It'd actually be nice to have a primary that sticks people in place (kinda stuns them with each hit, to mop up midrange/long range people better). I really have no idea what the shotgun would be like for the Heavy unlock. For the fists, though, I feel like it'd probably be a higher Critting slower punching attack, or a flurry of blows that kinda stuns people in place but never crits regularly (only with the Kritz).
Anyway, revise your old predictions, or come up with new ideas you'd like to see!
EDIT: Also, for the Sniper, I think they should add (like the compressed air), the ability to "shot" other things like the legs to slow movement, or arm to slow firing rate (or maybe put this option into the unlockable gun, losing the ability to headshot for as much damage, though still fairly powerful). They could call it the Peacemaker, because it makes people fight less effectively!

I think making a long range heavy would really mess up the game. Could you imaging a heavy that can hit with accuracy half way across a map? they stand at a dispenser, have a kritz medic on them and no one would every move across the field.

Soldiers need an upgrade next. its a class everyone can play, enough of the taking the least played ones.

I think the soldier needs it just because they need to be able to counter the new pyro update.

No they don't, soldiers just need to realize that pyros can actually shock, horror, fight and win consistently in cqc.

I just hope Valve continues to add class specific game mechanics that make the classes more varied and strategically deeper. The compression blast for the pyro was a perfect example of this. Totally new mechanic and only available for that one class, plus it is a SKILL based technique that you have to actually practice and master.
Having classes that share the same guns and with the only main differences being character model and speed are what they need to look at. For example, beyond the double jump, the scout has nothing unique to it. The scattergun, while slightly different, works the same as a shotgun.
One thing they could give to a class is a grappling mechanic that lets you swing around the map, a la old Quake World stuff. Something that you have to learn how it works and where best to use it on every map.

Even with all the updates the Scout is still the most powerful class in the game. Even more so now with the Soldier point blank damage being so high.
The Scout will probably be the second last to get updated (Sniper being last).
My prediction on the updates is: Engineer -> Heavy -> Soldier -> Spy -> Demoman -> Scout -> Sniper

Heavy. Bit biased as it's the only class I really play. I'd like to see a run/jump boost. Would be sort of crazy seeing a Heavy running around as quick as the Scout for a short time. I'd like to see the speed boost be able to be put in a reserve and activated when needed.

I'd like to see what they do with the Heavy, especially regarding his shotgun/fists. Right now there aren't many situations where you would use the two. The only thing I want is that there be no more HP configurations.

I heard something about the class updates are going in reverse order of the "Meet the [Class]" videos. So if that's true I think it would make Spy next. Then Sniper, Scout, etc. Could have just been a silly rumour though.
