So, after playing on the
Pyro Tennis map the past couple days and coming up with some impromptu rules for a new game, a few of us were thinking about having a weekend event some time soon, since it's extremely hard to actually play the game on an unpassworded server. We've come up with some basic rules to make pyro tennis more interesting, resulting in a game that's more a combination of baseball and tennis than plain tennis.
Here are the basic ground rules for
Focused Rocketball:
1. There are 4 people on a team, 1 soldier and 3 pyros. The soldier is the Pitcher, while the pyros are...Pyros.
2. A team scores by its pyros successfully sending a bounced rocket back into the opposing team's back wall (floor, side walls and ceiling hits don't score).
3. Serving is just like in volleyball. A team serves until they miss a point. They must pitch the rocket below the feet of the opposing pitcher (i.e. below the plank that holds where the soldiers stand). This is to prevent pitches into the upper corners, out of the pyro's normal range. A pitcher can score an 'Ace' by hitting the opposing back wall with his rocket/pitch.
4. To make things more interesting, if a team manages to bounce a crit rocket back to the soldier and kill him (either on the first pitch or a subsequent bounce), that team automatically wins the match.
5. First team to 10 points wins. Ties are decided by sudden death.
That's it. It's pretty simple, but a lot of fun. If you're interested, reply in this thread. I probably forgot some gamebreaking details in this post, so I'll update the OP as necessary before the match. The point of this match is also to help us improve our compressed-air deflection skillz in a competitive game, and to do it in a smacktard free, passworded server. We'll need a minimum of 6 people to play, but ideally at least 8 people signed up will allow us to play the game right. We'll decide the tourney structure if necessary depending on how many people are interested, and pick teams at 5.
