Here is an interesting video of how the hitboxes in TF2 work.

The bit about the lag compensation shows just how fantastic of a job Valve has done.
And it also shows how shitty EA did with their lag compensation in the BF series.

Look at the size of that head hitbox. No wonder headshots are so easy in this game. Excellent information. Explains a lot of strange things I've seen in the game.

Yes, the source netcode means you can aim for the model instead of trying to predict where the actual hitbox is based on your connection to the server.
Another good way to see how lag affects online games is to bring bots into the server and have them mimic you. You can then move and see the delay as the bots try and mirror your actions.
Valve's netcode is so far the best I've played online with.

Here is some info on it http://developer.valvesoftware.com/w...yer_Networking go to the lag compensation part.
A key peice taken from it since I see alot of people complain about this thing. Network latencies and lag compensation can create paradoxes that seem illogical compared to the real world. For example, you can be hit by an attacker you can't even see anymore because you already took cover. What happened is that the server moved your player hitboxes back in time, where you were still exposed to your attacker.

Because it's actually funny to watch the hitbox + compensation. Sure it works well, but it made me laugh when I watched it.

Didn't I say a couple of weeks/months back that TF2's head hit-box seemed unusually large? It's nearly as wide as the torso!

Eh, sniping was a whole lot easier in BF2. Not sure if its due to the differences in lag compensation (or lack there of in bf2), the speed of TF2 players compared to BF2, or what. But it was easier to rack up sniper kills in BF2.
