Default TF2 server not communicating anymore

Every time I seem to have logged in the teams didnīt communicate for shit. Like everyone is just tired of the game and lonewolfs around somewhere. Some days i just join Arfs side to hear someone talk at all....

Even several -F- people didnīt communicate. Has Steam washed your brains and degraded your teamworksskills down to a CS player?

Talk more and you will win more !

Funny I was just having a discussion with Bommando about the quality of the TF2 server play declining, and this was a big part of it.

TEAMWORK TEAMWORK TEAMWORK.

I'm going to make an effort to clean up my play and VoIP usage and you should too.

For the people NOT using comms at all, seriously, start communicating. The fun from multiplayer games is working WITH your team in a goal oriented, communicative, environment. Ever wonder why the game seems more fun when you have people like Beatnik on your team who A) have a good attitude B) take up a leadership role and attempt to rally the team and C) communicate RELEVANT helpful information over VoIP.

To summarize:

-If you don't talk, do.

-If you do talk, say things that are helpful - if what you are going to say is negative in a non constructive way, don't say it. Don't berate other players.

-Don't complain. Seriously, don't. This has come up in the admin forums and frankly we are sick of people who just bitch constantly. I am going to start temp banning people who are being negative Nancy's and obviously dragging the team down.

-This doesn't mean you can't joke around, but REALLY TRY REALLY HARD LIKE to keep your non-game related bullshitting to setup times or similar non action situations. We are all guilty of this, including me. Mostly it's not a big deal but sometimes it really grates on my nerves when some of you drone on endlessly about something that you thought was cool or funny but noone else cares.

-When in doubt, WWBD? Really though, what WOULD Beatnik do?

I agree. More chatter about what is going on in the game is always helpful. More listening helps too.

There are a few key things which I try to pass to the team at all times, and I wish everyone would do the same. Give your teammates a what and where for each of these, and you will be far more likely to win.

1. Any time there is an uber or a large offensive push

2. Any time you spot a possible flank about to happen

3. Any time you see ANYONE on your team get stabbed, even if you just notice it in the kill text

4. Any time when a spy saps your stuff - you should speak up right away, since you now know exactly where the spy is located

5. Any time you kill a spy, so that people can approximate the time until the next spy attack

6. Any time one or more of their players slips behind your front lines - your team needs to know if they are going to get attacked as they leave their spawn

And of course, you should share any information you learn about sentry locations, teleporter locations, or where the attackers are building uber.

I really like it when the talking takes the form of a dialog. Someone says "spy left side" and then a few seconds later, someone says "spy down". That way, nobody is left wondering. With a team that is communicating well, you can assume that the spy is still alive until someone says he's down.

Good comms are actually what sets our server apart, and yet we still aren't doing it enough!

Are you sure you weren't muted?

Yes, sometimes people don't respond, but it shouldn't stop you from telling them these things. Step 2 is listening.

Hahaha Don't forget to add "Accidentally hit 'taunt' right after the medic ubers you" and "Run the wrong way out of a teleporter exit, back to the main spawn".

This is a great thread topic. Icky and BHack nailed it - simple, RELEVANT communication is the single biggest factor that can put your team over the top. It gives your team a huge edge in situational awareness, so more people know how to get the jump on our enemies. Spotted spies die quickly instead of stabbing 4 silent players in a row before getting away. Spotted ubers are met with puffing pyros instead of mowing through our front line. And so on.

It's tough to get over the 'bystander effect' on a 12 person team, meaning that pretty much everyone expects someone else to step up and participate. The best way to do that is step up yourself, call out enemies and get your teammates talking.

And yes, don't be a douche and complain in-game or in TS. Our server is exactly what we make it, no more and no less. We can (and usually do) have one of the best teamplay servers for the game, or we can have one of the whiniest servers out there. The vast majority of the time we're the former, and hopefully this thread will prevent us from turning into the latter.

Maybe they just dont' like your accent. LOL just kidding.

It depends on the day. I don't think people wanna hear me bitching about how I hate snipers, or the string of profanities that come from my mouth after I die from a random crit fired from halfway across the map.

Then when Tybalt feels the need to spam us with his every so grand musical tastes, I turn voice off.

Maybe we need to have an F day.

lock the server out and let the F members work on ... well teamwork. corny sounding I know. but top gaming teams do practice working together fairly often. instead of bashing someone for playing one class see if you cant improve their playing with it. maybe come up with a "buddy" system. make two people stick together and work together.

It's not a great idea but it beats listening to people smack talk you because you don't agree with them.
