Exclamation SourceTV for TF2

We have enabled SourceTV on our TF2 Server for your spectating enjoyment.

Everything you need to know is covered in the above linked article, but here is a summary:

Quote:
SourceTV offers the ability to have an unlimited number of spectators watching online games based on the Source Engine. SourceTV spectators are invisible to players and can't interact with the running game in any way. The camera view in SourceTV is controlled by an auto-director AI or a human camera man. The broadcast is usually delayed by a certain amount of time. This ensures that the playing teams can't use SourceTV to get any usable information about their opponents. SourceTV can also record server-side demos that contain the whole game with all entities and events.
Our current maximum viewers is set at 10 to test server load. This may increase or decrease depending on demand.

To access SourceTV on the Focused Gaming server, do the following:
  1. From the TF2 main menu, choose "Find Servers".
  2. Select the "Spectate" tab and sort by Name.
  3. Look for "FocusedGaming.com TV" in the list.
  4. Join the SourceTV server and load in. You'll be able to spectate just like you can in-game, except you won't occupy a slot above the existing SourceTV bot already in place. You can also add the TV to your favorites from here.

Alternatively, you can just type into the console:

Code:
connect 72.233.30.78:27020
A few tips on spectate commands and features:
  • Space Bar: Changes views between First Person, Third Person and Free Cam.
  • Left and Right Mouse Button: Switches back and forth between players and fixed camera positions.
  • WASD Keys: Moves camera in Free Cam mode.

Feel free to ask any questions here or report any bugs or lag you may encounter with SourceTV enabled.

Thanks for watching

I tested it out, it's pretty cool.

You can add the FocusedGaming TV entry as a favourite like any other server so you only have to search for it once.

You can see in-game chat but it looks like anything you type in chat as a SourceTV viewers is only visible to other SourceTV viewers.

No, it wasn't. The feature consumes heaps of data storage and at the time I tested it, the demos weren't being recorded properly. I may revisit this if I get the time.

At this time, STV has been turned off due to a couple of bugs:

For some reason, connecting to either the server or STV via the in-game browser can randomly push you into the other connection port. I haven't been able to uncover the reason for the bug and have submitted a ticket with our GSP to see if they have an idea. I suspect it may have to do with setting tv_port correctly in the srcds startup parameter, as detailed in the documentation. Connecting via console with the correct port will always give the desired result, but the in-game browser has been producing anomalies, leading to confusion when players get pushed into STV when they intended to connect to the game.

The STV bot also seems to be messing with our GameTracker player graph. I mentioned this in a relevant thread in the GameTracker forums and we'll see if they end up working this out.

So, for now it's off until we can get it working consistently. Anyone with any ideas as to why these problems happen is welcome to suggest a solution.

I noticed this last night. The server info screen listed the player count and slots as 23/23 instead of 22/22 and one of the slots was taken by SourceTV. When I logged in, I would constantly log in on a SourceTV channel and I would just track everyone else. I had to wait until the player count went below 22 before I could connect in on a regular player slot.

Bommando turned it off because it was screwing up stuff again. It's kinda flakey sometimes.

Too bad - I messed with it some when we first turned it on, and it was pretty cool to watch a game in progress. I didn't think about using it again until the Highlander event, thinking it'd be cool to watch that - and saw that it had been turned off.

Hopefully they'll get it sorted out, if not enough for regular use at least for other special events.
