I kind of prefer to see the stats as a good way to track progress and see a breakdown of your play time rather than who is the better player. Numbers have never been good at tracking that.
For example: People who regularly seed the server or keep it alive late at night will have a drastically lower SPM than those who only play prime time. People who regularly sacrifice themselves to keep intelligence alive or to block captures will have a much lower KD than those who sit back and snipe for rounds on end. Dedicated Medics also suffer in KD, although they get bonuses for assists. There are also classes which don't score fast, but are needed for a team victory just like any other. Engineers and Scouts tend to score much slower than say Soldiers, Snipers, Heavies and Demos, but they fill a very important role in most rounds, albeit in smaller numbers.
There is a place for each play style, but using stats to compare them isn't the way I envisage the stats system. The leaderboard rewards those who play the most, which I think is fine. For the other stats, each individual can have their own take on things and work on their game how they see fit.
A little rivalry is good, but I'd prefer to tweak the overall score count to reward a broader mix of teamwork actions than straight out who can score the fastest.
