We gave it a run last night, I like the improvements. In the version before this, I felt that it was too friendly to the Offense, now it feels more balanced. The best part is the removal of the midfield stairs, this creates two distinct routes, and the harder to get too route gives you the option to change routes...

It's a clever design...is it a remake or a new map?

This is a remake from Quake 3 Fortress which came out in 2000. When Q3F was ported to the free game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (since they were on the same engine) I helped finish off the maps on that dev team and it was included in ETF as well. You can check out the original shots for it at http://www.etfgame.com/shots/levels/index.shtml (it was revamped for ETF visually, it was quite bland in Q3F)

A lot of the maps from there I port, as most of them were A+ maps that the larger population didn't enjoy due to the mod not being as popular as it could be. You can still get ETF and check it out for free though as long as you have Wolf: ET.

I think he gives some pretty good explanations for why he does stuff. I like that sort of thing ina readme.

Yeah I like the removal of the stairs in the center. Now, if you're going to attack the 3rd floor of your opponents' base, you have to go through your 3rd floor, or be a soldier or demo. Makes things much more interesting, IMO.

Those steps prove to me additions to classic maps need to be handled with extreme care. It was better the way it was in the old Fortress game after all, heh.

I assume Valve has discovered the same thing.
